I use quantitative and AI methods in three areas of health research.

Behavioral addictions

This work asks how problem gaming is defined and measured. A survey of 394 players, published in 2017, found that social phobia, identification with one's avatar and symptoms of internet gaming disorder were related. A scoping review of digital behavioral addictions in adolescents and young adults is now under review, and its protocol was published in 2026.

Integrated care

Here the question is whether integrated care is associated with lower short-term hospital use and cost. Two published analyses of one four-clinic care program each included 526 high-need, high-cost adults, and both found fewer emergency department visits and hospital admissions within 60 days among adults in the program. The designs are observational, so the results are associations and not proof of cause.

Clinical AI and cancer pathology cohorts

With collaborators at the University of Miami, I study cancer pathology cohorts and AI in pathology and imaging. A 2026 study of 3,142 radical prostatectomy cases identified factors associated with lymph node metastasis. A study of extensive urothelial denudation and high-grade urothelial carcinoma is in press.
