Teaching
When a course ends, I want students to be able to do four things: apply evidence to a real case, read research critically, see a person in context, and work the way the field works. Cases sit at the center of my courses, and most of my class time goes to discussion. I check learning often and in small steps, and I apply the same check to my own teaching: I evaluated a brief curriculum I designed for physicians and residents and published the first results.
My last university course ended in 2021, but I have not stopped teaching. Since then I have given invited lectures at Arizona State University and the University of Miami and co-led faculty-development sessions on research methods at Florida International University. I have also supervised new clinicians, and that work changed what I would teach next.
